Portree, Isle of Skye

Portree is busy starting point for Isle of Skye exploration. The town is packed by tourists in a busy season, but despite that it still delivers on Isle of Skye experience.

I can recommend to stay in Torvaig Caravan & Camp Site, which has spot on views on Cuillin Mountains and you can find ancient fort remains just a minute from the camp side. From the top of the remains you can see Old Man of Storr.

The main Isle of Skye tourist destinations are very close to Portree as well. Old Man of Storr is just 10 minutes drive, Quairaing is about 30 minutes drive and parking for Rubh an Dunain is about an hour of drive away.

When you return from your exploration, you can enjoy a fish or seafood in one of harbour restaurants or have a burger in The Isles Inn.

Just be aware you need to arrive earlier if you want to find a space in the camp as space is limited during the main season.

I’ll recommend to arrive by car as you will have nearly unlimited exploration possibilities. If you don’t have a car, there is a bus connection from major Scottish cities.
