This spectacular castle from 13th century is located on a sea island at western Highlands in Scotland. The castle was opened to public in 1955.
You can reach the castle in five hours when you drive a car from Edinburgh. Almost all bus tour operators have this castle on their itinerary as well.
The Eilean Donan Castle is ideally located as an eye catching break on a route between the central belt (Edinburgh, Glasgow) and Isle of Skye.
You can park on a free car park next to the castle visitor centre. Just be aware that during the main season (July, August) the car park can be full and very busy.
As it is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland you will be welcomed by a piper on the shore who is prepared to be photographed.
The castle was featured in many movies and TV series like James Bond – The World is Not Enough (1999).
